Kara Eaker, an alternate on theU.S.
Olympic gymnastics team, has tested positive for COVID-19, as reported byThe Washington Post.
The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee said the gymnast is currently isolating in a hotel.
Wong has not been vaccinated, but the other two alternates, Kayla DiCello and Emma Malabuyo, have.
“The entire delegation continues to be vigilant and will maintain strict protocols while they are in Tokyo.”
Eaker tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, just three days after arriving in Tokyo.
The gymnast’s diagnosis means there’s no chance that she’ll compete.
“There was hope up to this point, even as an alternate.
Now that the results have come back, that hope is gone.”
“If there’s something I could tell everybody: Take this seriously.”
PerESPN, the six-woman team kicks off competition on July 25.
Led bySimone Biles, the team is heavily favored to win gold.
